Action Teams
Everyone who comes to Climate Camp will be encouraged to join or to form an “Action Team” (sometimes called 'affinity group'). The idea is that people in Action Teams take part in the actions and protests together, support each other and plan your participation together. The aim is to make the actions at the camp as effective, rewarding, fun and safe as possible, for you and everyone else.
Some Action Teams will be organised before the Camp, and some will be organised at the Camp. If you are not already in an Action Team when you arrive at Climate Camp, we will help you form one, or get into one that's already formed. You get to choose which Action Team you are in, and you can go in one with people you know if you like (in fact, we encourage it).
We will encourage Action Teams to be open to other people to join, however Action Teams can decide to be closed. If you want to form an Action Team with a group of friends, but none of you have ever been involved in Non-Violent Direct Action before, we will help you as much as we can. We will provide workshops everyday, and we can put a more experienced activist in your Action Team if you want.
Each Action Team will send one spokesperson to the Camp Spokescouncil.
Why Action Teams?
- It can be very daunting to get involved in mass civil disobedience and direct action for the first time. If you have a small team of people to help, including people that you know and trust, it makes it much easier.
- Large groups of people can organise themselves much more efficiently if they break into smaller groups.
