Children's activities at camp
Children are most welcome at Climate Camp and special activities will be available for them. Climate Camp will be a family and child friendly event.
A children's space will be set up with its own marquee and secure outdoor play area. Art and craft materials, games, toys, activities, food and places to rest will be provided. A roster of responsible volunteers will be set up to care for the children - numbers of volunteers required will depend on the numbers and ages of the children. Children's activities will be free, but a donated shift will be appreciated.
The kids' space will accommodate all ages and skill levels. There will be structured activities for toddlers and older children. We will create as many varied age specific activities as possible, depending on the numbers of children fitting into each category and the number of volunteers.
Scheduled activities will include fun workshops with environmental themes such as: art and craft with recycled materials, including making a model ecovillage (families are encouraged to bring along anything which could be used for this project), games about ecological awareness, and percussion!
Babies: We have a range of books, blocks and safe toys for babies to play with under full supervision. Colouring books, crayons and pencils will be provided and singing, rhymes and games used to entertain throughout the camp!
Guardians will be responsible for the safety of their children at camp. When we are taking peaceful direct action together guardians must supervise their children at all times. The camp and the main action will include roles safe for people from little children to great grandparents. Windmill making. Recycled materials will be used to make windmills as a representation of the sustainable future we hope our children inherit. 13th July 14th July Today we will sit down and chat with the kids about the action and hold a debrief session. Afternoon: We will have some play time and then pack up time. Parents are encouraged to come and see the kids' art and craft and decorated space before they go home. Kids are welcome to take home their craft items, painting etc. We would love to collect copies of drawings etc made at climate camp to put together in a book, or put on the website to show people how the kids participated and how much they care. A collective of parents have also thought of compiling a book of drawings and letters for Kevin Rudd about climate change. If you are interested please contact Angela at Food: The kids' space will supply water and fruit. We ask that parents/carers supply any extra food that is needed for their time in the kids' space. Please do not bring along nuts as some children have allergies. Allergies: It is vital that we know of any allergies that your child may have. Before entering the space let a volunteer know of any allergies or special requirements your child has. This is a voluntarily run space and while all possible precautions will be in place to ensure everyones safety, we cannot take responsibility for accidents which may occur. Contact: To help us get a better idea of numbers, it would be great if you are Climate change affects everyone, and the future generations are likely to feel the effects the hardest. We believe that the climate change movement can involve everyone, young and old. We provide this space to encourage participation from all walks of life. Children are the future and we believe that it's important for them to be involved in their future. We look forward to seeing lots of families and children participating in climate camp.
