Two weeks to go - Climate Camp June update

There are now only two weeks to go until Climate Camp and people from all over Australia are preparing to travel to Newcastle to take part in the camp. In Newcastle we are busily pulling together the physical logistics for the camp – it's all getting practical from here!

Don't forget to check our list of what to bring before you set off. The most important things to remember are warm and waterproof clothes, bedding, your own eating implements and your own ideas to contribute to the mass action.

Peaceful Mass Action

The highlight of the camp – the mass action will be a moment to stand together and say 'no more' to coal and 'yes' to renewable energy solutions! Camp participants will be joined by others from Newcastle, Sydney and beyond. Up to a thousand people representing a broad spectrum of our society will peacefully and collectively take action to stop coal trains heading for the world's largest coal port. The action will be colouful, festive and child-friendly, with arrestable and non-arrestable roles. Meet 10am at Islington Park (close to Hamilton Station) for a march to the Carrington coal terminal. There will be speakers, activities and food but come prepared with some of your own provisions and creativity!

Program

Click here to see the draft program for the camp – an exciting, jam-packed six days of workshops, plenary discussions, kids activities, open space discussions, music and direct action. There will also be "open space" time during the camp, where people can create and submit workshops on the day. Stuff we need

We are still trying to source some equipment for the camp. Watercraft are especially needed! Have a look at our wishlist to see if you can help.

Help organise the Camp

With Climate Camp rapidly approaching, there's still lots to do, and many volunteers will be needed during the camp. Whatever your background, there is a role for you. We need people to help with the physical set up of the camp to make it as sustainable as low impact as possible. We need help with feeding the masses, keeping any children entertained, first aid (hopefully not too much!), managing waste, facilitating workshops, and we need people to come with their own creative ideas and plans for direct action. Contact info[at]climatecamp.org.au to offer your support. See here to get an idea of things you'll be able to offer to help with while you're at the camp.

There are regular bike workshops, prop-making sessions and junk percussion workshops happening in Newcastle to prepare for the camp. Contact us for info on how to get involved.
